What PTE score equals IELTS 6.5?

An overall PTE score of 55–62 corresponds to IELTS 6.5 in Pearson’s July 2025 concordance.

Why does a PTE speaking score convert lower than the same listening score?

Each skill has its own table. For example, IELTS 7.0 corresponds to PTE 58–63 in listening but 76–82 in speaking. Convert each skill separately rather than using the overall table.

Will my university or visa accept this conversion?

Not automatically. A concordance is an approximate comparison, and every university, employer and visa authority sets its own PTE and IELTS requirements. Always check the requirement for the test you are taking.

Before you rely on a conversion

A concordance is approximate. Pearson says so itself: the two tests use different scales, so a one-to-one mapping is never exact.
Universities, employers and visa authorities set their own PTE and IELTS requirements. Check the requirement for the test you are taking rather than converting.
This table is for the updated PTE Academic used from August 2025. Older PTE results were compared with IELTS using an earlier study, so older charts online give different numbers.
Convert each skill separately. The skill tables differ from the overall one, especially for speaking and writing.

Frequently asked questions

In Pearson’s July 2025 concordance, an overall PTE score of 63–70 corresponds to IELTS 7.0, so PTE 65 overall is about IELTS 7.0. Skill scores convert differently, so check each skill in the table.
