A 30-day PTE study plan for working students in Nepal
By Saurabh Thakulla · Published
Most PTE preparation advice assumes you can study all day. Many students in Nepal can’t: they have jobs, classes or family responsibilities. This plan fits into about one hour a day, with a longer session once a week for a mock test.
Before you start: take a diagnostic
Take one full mock test on day 1, under real timing. Write down your score in each skill. This plan adjusts around your weakest skill, and it’s impossible to know which one that is without a baseline.
The daily core (every day, about 25 minutes)
These short, high-value tasks appear in every week of the plan:
- Read Aloud: 5 passages, recorded and played back.
- Repeat Sentence: 10 sentences.
- Write from Dictation: 10 sentences, checking spelling carefully.
These three tasks each count towards two skills, so daily practice pays off quickly. (Read why in PTE 79+: the integrated tasks.)
Week 1: learn every task type
Goal: know exactly what each task asks and how it’s scored.
- Daily core (25 min)
- Rotating focus (35 min): one or two task types a day, starting with the ones you’ve never tried: Describe Image, Re-tell Lecture, Summarize Written Text, the reading multiple-choice tasks.
- By the end of the week, you should have tried every task type at least three times.
Week 2: fix your weakest skill
Goal: bring up the skill your diagnostic showed was lowest.
- Daily core (25 min)
- Weak-skill block (35 min):
- Speaking weak? Describe Image and Re-tell Lecture daily, recorded. Work on keeping going without restarts.
- Writing weak? One Summarize Written Text and part of an essay daily, strictly inside the word limits.
- Reading weak? Both fill-in-the-blanks tasks daily, plus vocabulary review.
- Listening weak? Summarize Spoken Text and Highlight Incorrect Words daily.
- End of week: second full mock test.
Week 3: timing and the newer tasks
Goal: answer every task within its time limit, and practise the tasks added in 2025.
- Daily core (25 min)
- Timed sets (35 min): practise sections under real timing. Make sure you know the newer speaking tasks, Respond to a Situation and Summarize Group Discussion, as well as the older ones.
- End of week: third full mock test, then compare all three scores. Which skill improved least?
Week 4: mocks and review
Goal: test-day readiness.
- Daily core (25 min)
- Review block (35 min): go through your Mistake Bank and redo questions you got wrong.
- Two mock tests this week, at the same time of day as your booked test if possible.
- Two days before the test: light practice only. Rest matters.
If you only have 30 minutes a day
Do the daily core every day and one mock test every weekend. Progress will be slower, but steady.
Tips that make the plan work
- Same time every day. A fixed slot, such as before work or after dinner, builds the habit.
- Record everything you say. You can’t fix speaking you never hear back.
- Track scores in a notebook, skill by skill, every week.
- Don’t memorise templates. PTE scoring now combines AI with human review and penalises memorised content.
Book when the mocks say you’re ready
When two mock tests in a row are at or above your target, book your test. Prepyo’s PTE mock tests are timed, follow the real test order and are scored on the 10–90 scale, so you can see when you’re ready. See PTE Academic preparation.
