EPS-TOPIK model questions (2026): sample reading and listening questions with answers
By Saurabh Thakulla · Published
Model questions are the fastest way to understand EPS-TOPIK, because the test reuses the same question types every time. Once you recognise a type, you know what it is testing and where to look.
Below is one sample question for each common type, with the answer and an explanation in English. Prepyo wrote all of these questions. They show the style of the test but are not real exam questions, which are not published.
The test format
According to HRD Korea, which runs the test:
- Reading: 20 questions, 25 minutes, 50 points.
- Listening: 20 questions, 25 minutes, 50 points.
- Total: 40 multiple-choice questions, each with four options, in 50 minutes.
There is no speaking or writing section. Read more about preparing for EPS-TOPIK without an academy.

Answers and explanations
| No. | Answer | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | ① 망치 | 망치 is a hammer. 가위 is scissors, 사다리 is a ladder and 장갑 is gloves, all common workplace words. |
| 2 | ② 친구를 | 친구 ends in a vowel, so it takes 를. 사과, 물 and 빵 need 를, 을 and 을 respectively. |
| 3 | ① No smoking | 금연 means “no smoking”. Learn safety signs early, because they appear often. |
| 4 | ① 의사 | A hospital (병원) goes with a doctor (의사). |
| 5 | ② 에 | 에 marks the place you go to: 회사에 가요, “I go to the company”. |
| 6 | ① 가게 | “A place where you buy things and pay money” is a shop (가게). |
| 7 | ② | The person finishes at 5 p.m. (오후 다섯 시). They rest on Saturdays, work in a kimchi factory and start at 8. |
| 8 | ② | 밖에서 하는 일은 쉽니다: outdoor work stops. Indoor work (안에서 하는 일) goes on as usual. |
| 9 | ① 가방 | The other options start with the same sound (가), which is exactly the trap this type sets. |
| 10 | ② | The question asks where to put the box. Only ② gives a place: “Put it in the storeroom over there.” |
| 11 | ② | 삼만 오천 = 3 × 10,000 + 5 × 1,000 = 35,000. Practise 만 (10,000), because Nepali and English count differently. |
| 12 | ① | She asks where the toilet is. “Go straight that way” is the only answer to a where question. |
| 13 | ③ 7:00 | He normally finishes at six, but today he must work one hour more (한 시간 더), so seven. |
How to use model questions well
- Learn the type, not the question. Real questions change, but the types repeat. After each question, name the type and what it tested: a particle, a sign, a number or a place.
- Check every wrong option. Ask why each wrong answer is wrong. That is where vocabulary sticks.
- Time yourself. Each section allows about 75 seconds per question. Practise at that pace once your accuracy is steady.
- Listen to the end of every sentence. In Korean, the ending decides the meaning: 들어가세요 (please go in) and 들어가지 마세요 (please don’t go in) differ only at the end. See our EPS-TOPIK listening guide.
- Build vocabulary by topic. Tools, safety and directions come up again and again. Start with our 60 workplace words.
If Hangul is still slow for you, start with learning Hangul in a week before doing timed practice.
